The most frequent aesthetic disorder of the ears is the shape disorder known as flap-ear. The flap-ear is the frontal or lateral position of the ear due to weak ear cartilage and accordingly insufficient ear curves formation. This is generally a birth mark and originates from the genetics of the family. The flap-ear situation does not generate any functional problems however, especially in the childhood era, may cause psychological trauma and mockery by the other children. The flap ear operation is an aesthetic operation heavily demanded by the men. The ladies may hide their ears with their hair. However ladies too will become so happy after the operation since now they may enjoy short hair cuts. The operation is performed to close up the flap-ears to the head, to give shape to the missing curves or to reduce the big ears. This operation may be performed to the persons after age four. The ears are regarded to complete their total evolution by the age four and, indeed, as early the operation is performed the lesser mockery and problems to be faced. Total anesthesia is better if your child is young; for the older children or adults though, sedation plus local anesthesia will be more suitable. In that, your child will be awake and sedated.

The operation lasts 45-90 minutes depending on the technique. An incision is made to the back of the ear and some amount of excess skin is extracted. Then the pocket in which the ear cartilage will be placed in is formed and fixed with stitches. This provides the lessening in angle of the ear. If the ear, additionally, has missing curves; then the cartilage of the ear will be slightly weakened from the frontal side and a curve is accordingly formed as adapted to the new shape with stitches. The adults and children may stand up after a couple of hours from the operation and may get back their homes. The head of the patient will be wound after the operation for to ease the shaping and recovery. This wound may be taken off after 2-3 days and a slight dressing may be performed. A head band is recommended especially for night use after the removal of said wounding. Daytime use of this band however will help the better preservation of the shape of the ear. The self melting stitches are used and thus no stitch removal is required in post operative times. Most of the adults may turn to their jobs within about seven days.
