What Is Sclerotherapy ?
It is the treatment of the veins that have arrived to the skin surface and with an unpleasant view. Capillary cracks, telengiectasies and varicose are the undesired malfunctioning veins of the legs. In the varicose treatment, the medicine is injected within the legs using fine needles. After that, pressure bandages and socks shall be applied. The thin and thick varicose and capillary cracks may be treated successfully thanks to the sclerotherapy.
When I Shall Have Varicose Treatment?
Earliest possible treatment of the varicose will give the best results. The early treatment removes many risks that may appear in future. Sclerotherapy is used for the certain faulty veins and in reduction of more harmful faulty formations. Also it may be used together with other treatment techniques as well for reduction of the varicose in the veins and thrombosis.
Is It Safe? Will I Have Pain?
Sclerotherapy is very effective in the treatment of varicose veins. The treated patient may turn to his/her works on the same day. More than one treatment may be necessary for the removal of the surface varicose. The treated varicose may seem worse for a couple of weeks but then totally vanish. Thus, the chronological planning should be good or treatment shall be performed a couple of weeks before special dates.
What Are The Possible Complications To Come In Case I Do Not Have Sclerotherapy?
The progress and expansion of varicose. Varicose injuries. Thrombosis (clot), Phlebitis Embolism (clot blocking the lung)
Are the Results Permanent?
The varicose removed by Sclerotherapy may not repeat. However some patients may face new capillary cracks in years. But this may not be understood as the repetition of the former capillary cracks. Instead, they are newly formed varicose.
Are There Other Treatments For Varicose? How Is Their Effectiveness?
New laser treatments have shown progress for capillary cracks. However the latest studies have proven that the laser treatment has been more expensive and less effective than Sclerotherapy. Ambulatory phlebectomy is the removal of certain varicose by incising via a small scale surgical operation. This method has given the results of the Sclerotherapy method and effects; however scars are left as a natural outcome of surgical incision. The scraping and/or binding of the varicose veins may be used for the treatment of veins with big varicose. This method requires anesthesia and hospital stay. The vein scraping and/or binding may cause nerve paralysis side effect on some patients. The other undesired effects are lung embolism and permanent scars. Anesthesia has some serious risks too. These include loss of life, damage on brain and paralysis.
How This Technique Works?
The medicines used for Sclerotherapy include alcohol and sodium tetradecy. These medicines start to act in blood coverage formations and, in addition, when the faulty cells of the blood veins line are damaged. A microscopic injury is formed within the vein and the walls of the vein are attached to each other. Thus the varicose gets thicker first and then disappears totally.
History
Jausin had tried glycerine for the varicose treatment for the first time in 1925. Many different agents have been used from then to now. These include hypertonic saline, dextroject, sodium tetradecylsulphate, hydroxypolyethoxydodecane. Effects A microscopic injury is formed within the vein and the walls of the vein are attached to each other. Thus, the varicose gets thicker first and then totally disappears. The number of the sessions changes up to the sizes and expansion of the present veins.
Scientific Proofs
The clinical experiments that have been carried out in many countries for long years have shown that the Sclerotherapy had been a safe method for the removal of the varicose and capillaries if it was to be applied by the respective specialists of the field.
Does Sclerotherapy Work For Everyone?
Many patients who have had Sclerotherapy have shown a total recovery or, at least, a major recovery.
Is The Application Painful?
Many patients who have accepted Sclerotherapy had been so surprised when understood that the needles were how painless and ache-free. A little pinch or a mosquito bite feeling is the case. Generally such level is not exceeded. However a slight burning may be felt after the injection sometimes. But this lessens and vanishes very fast indeed.
How Many Sessions Will I Need?
The number of sessions for a full recovery or for a progress towards recovery changes from patient to patient depending on the status of the varicose and capillary cracks. In general, one may need 1 to 4 sessions or a little more. Individual varicose is destroyed generally in 1 to 3 sessions.
Can We Prevent Capillary Cracks?
The scientists have not found yet the strict methods for to prevent such cracks. However, some scientists claim that supporting socks, weight control and sports may be helpful.
How Is The Procedure?
Sclerotherapy is performed while standing in our examination offices. The skin is cleaned with alcohol and the needles are applied. Most the treatments takes 15 minutes. A bandage and supporting socks are applied on the legs. These socks shall be worn for 5-10 days. Walking and slight exercises are recommended for many patients. The disturbance is at minimum level. Temporary purple spots may be seen around the area of treatment.
What Are The Most Common Side Effects?
The frequent side effects of the Sclerotherapy treatment: ITCHING: A slight itching may occur alon the veins depending on the type of used solutions. This itching lasts 1 or 2 hours normally. SHORT TERMED HYPERPIGMENTATION: Color changes (light brown lines) are spotted at about 10% of the patients who had Sclerotherapy. The veins get darker in some patients after the application. The dark zones disappear about in 10-14 days generally. In very rare cases these dark zones continue for 4-12 months. PEELING: The peelings happen for lesser than 1% of the patients who have Sclerotherapy
